Volume One, ‘The Illicit Stills’, offers a robust and notably peated character, reminiscent of Arran’s traditionally produced whiskies. Volume Two, ‘The High Seas’, uniquely blends peated whisky matured in bourbon casks with those finished in rum barrels, echoing the smugglers’ reliance on readily available, if unconventional, maturation sources. The final volume, ‘The Exciseman’, utilizes easily concealed quarter casks alongside Madeira casks – a nod to European smuggling routes – resulting in a complex and intriguing dram.
