Originally established to create malt for blends, Karuizawa uniquely employed Golden Promise barley and matured its spirit exclusively in sherry casks, resulting in a remarkably robust and characterful single malt. Bottled in 2015 as part of the Samurai series (Cask #4201, one of only 358 bottles), it offers a rich and complex flavour profile, hinting at dried fruits, spice, and a subtle volcanic minerality reflective of its origin.
