A 1996 vintage whisky from Lagavulin distillery. It gets its flavours from the top-quality dessert sherry casks used by Pedro Ximénez, balancing the smoky flavour with a sweet and syrupy flavour of the dessert sherry. Bottled in 2012, the 1996 edition if probably the most sought after in the range. The woody aromas of truffle oak, allspice and dry hay, with a touch of nutmeg, rum and rising ice cream and prunes gives off a great treat to the nose. The palate enjoys the smoked prune juice, Christmas cake, rum and porcini mushroom with sticking plasters, rum, and chocolate. The cocoa powder and black pepper combine with demerara rum to create the absolutely remarkable finish.
