Suntory was established by Shinjiro Torii in 1899 by opening a wine store in Osaka, the store was a huge success which eventually led to the building of its first distillery Yamazaki in 1924. The Kakubin was first introduced in 1937 and has since been one of the more popular whiskies in Japan. The word "Kakubin" in Japanese means "square bottle", and the whisky is known for its distinctive square-shaped bottle. The design of the bottle is meant to be easy to hold and pour, and it has become an iconic symbol of Japanese whisky. There are several other variations of the Kakubin whisky available, including the Kakubin Yellow Label, Kakubin Black Label, and Kakubin Special. This is the Kakubin Yellow label and once opened the aromas of honey, cereals, vanilla and smoke are present, the plate is caramel, honey, smoke, citrus and white pepper with a long finish of cinnamon, honey and white pepper.
