About this whisky
- Malt type: Blended
- Region: Scotland
The White Horse Distillery was an old Irish whisky distillery operating in Mountrath in county Laois, Ireland. The distillery was named after the White Horse river nearby. The river played an important part for the local distilleries of the area and some believe it was even named after the colour of its waters as a result of distillery operations. According to a local folklore, the distillery and brand were sold to Scottish distilleries in the 1800s, thus marking an interesting change of fortunes in the distilling industries of the two countries. In 1861 the White Horse brand was established in Scotland by James Logan Mackie. This miniature blended whisky is a great piece of history anyone would be lucky to have, the blend is known to include Lagavulin, Talisker, Caol Ila and Linkwood amongst its component parts.
