Dewar's is a renowned brand of blended Scotch whisky produced in Scotland by Bacardi. Established in 1846 by John Dewar, Sr., the brand gained prominence under the stewardship of his sons, John A. Dewar Jr. and Thomas "Tommy" Dewar. By 1896, Dewar's had become a global market leader and earned accolades such as a gold medal at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. Tommy Dewar's travels and writings further popularized the Dewar name worldwide.
In 1896, Dewar's expanded its operations by founding the Aberfeldy Distillery, which remains integral to its production process today.
The brand's influence in the United States was cemented when industrialist Andrew Carnegie sent Dewar's Scotch whisky to Presidents James Garfield and Benjamin Harrison for their inaugurations.
In 1925, Dewar's joined Distillers Company, later acquired by Guinness in 1986. Subsequent mergers with Grand Metropolitan formed Diageo in 1997. In 1998, Dewar's was acquired by Bacardi.
Dewar's is celebrated for its innovative whisky-making techniques, notably pioneering the "marrying" process, where blended whisky is aged together in oak casks to enhance its complexity and smoothness.
