Inchmurrin Whisky is a distinguished Highland single malt Scotch produced at the Loch Lomond distillery, situated in Alexandria, Scotland. Known for its uniquely fruity and floral character, Inchmurrin whisky derives its distinctive profile from a meticulous production process utilizing a pot still equipped with rectifying heads, which allows for a high cut point during distillation.
History and Production
Founded in 1966, the Loch Lomond distillery was initially focused on producing a variety of whisky styles, capable of accommodating at least eight distinct spirits. Despite its versatility, Inchmurrin played a minor role within Loch Lomond's predominantly blend-focused operations. However, under the ownership of Colin Matthews and Exponent Private Equity, Inchmurrin has gained prominence as part of the evolving Loch Lomond Island Collection malts range.
Characteristics
Inchmurrin whisky is celebrated for its initial intensely fruity new make spirit, which matures into delicate notes of grass and flowers. This flavor profile distinguishes it within the broader range of Highland single malts. Complementing its soft and floral character, Inchmurrin is often juxtaposed with its peatier counterpart, Inchmoan, also named after an island on Loch Lomond.
Portfolio
Following its acquisition in 2014, Inchmurrin has expanded its presence with notable expressions such as the 12-year-old and an 18-year-old variant finished in Madeira wood. These offerings underscore Inchmurrin's growing significance within Loch Lomond's portfolio, reflecting a commitment to quality and innovation in single malt production.
Ownership
Inchmurrin is produced under the Loch Lomond Group, a subsidiary of Loch Lomond Distillers. The distillery's dedication to crafting diverse whisky styles aligns with its legacy of innovation and excellence in Scottish whisky production.
