The Lakes "Liberty" is a bold and courageous English single malt from The Whiskymaker's Editions, a series designed as a creative playground for the distillery to move beyond its traditional sherry-forward house style. Released in 2021 as a distillery-exclusive bottling, Liberty was intentionally presented as a "blank canvas," free from official tasting notes or cask specifications to encourage drinkers to explore and interpret the liquid without outside influence. This limited release of only 1,450 bottles is bottled at a powerful 56% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in color. It showcases the whiskymaker's art of blending and layering textural nuances, resulting in a complex spirit that balances creamy sweetness with building spice. Despite the air of mystery, the whisky is noted for its aromatic profile featuring hints of orchard fruits like apple and pear, balanced by a cereal-driven richness and a clean, elegant finish.
