Ballindalloch Distillery — Speyside Single Malt Whisky

Ballindalloch Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located on the Ballindalloch Castle estate in Banffshire, Speyside, Scotland. It was founded in 2014 and is owned by the Macpherson-Grant family, who have held the estate since 1546. Marketed as Scotland's first "single estate" distillery, it grows its own barley, distills, matures and bottles the whisky entirely on the estate grounds.

History

The Macpherson-Grant family began exploring a use for a group of disused farm buildings on the Ballindalloch Castle estate in late summer 2011, seeking to revive the family's earlier connection to distilling. The distillery was built within these converted traditional steading buildings and started production in 2014, drawing process water from the estate's own Garline Springs and using barley grown in the surrounding fields. With a single wash still and a single spirit still and a capacity of around 100,000 litres per year, Ballindalloch has positioned itself as a small-scale, hands-on operation rather than a high-volume producer. The distillery's inaugural single malt release followed in 2022, and that same year it won the Craft Producer award at the Whisky Magazine Icons of Whisky Awards. Visitors can tour the distillery, and the estate also runs an on-site bar and an "Estate Club" membership programme for enthusiasts.
