Boann Distillery — County Meath Single Malt Whisky

Boann Distillery is an Irish whiskey distillery located in Lagavooren, on the outskirts of Drogheda, County Meath, Ireland. It was founded in 2019 and is owned and independently run by the Cooney family. Boann was one of the first distilleries in over fifty years to produce Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey using a mixed grain mash bill, reviving a historic style closely associated with Irish distilling.

History

Boann Distillery takes its name from the River Boyne, which flows past the site in the Boyne Valley, an area with a long history of grain growing and distilling. It was established in 2019 by Patrick and Marie Cooney, whose family has lived and worked in the Boyne Valley for over 200 years, with the goal of producing traditional Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey from locally sourced grain and water drawn from the distillery's own well. The distillery is named after the goddess Boann of Irish mythology, associated with the river of the same name. Alongside whiskey, Boann also produces gin and brandy, and it offers public tours of the site, including its custom copper pot stills, as part of its visitor operation.

Core Range

Boann's core range centres on Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey released under the Boann Whiskey and Boann Legacy names, alongside The Whistler range of triple-blend whiskeys (including a Whistler Irish Honey expression). Limited and seasonal releases have included cask finishes such as the Boann Winter Solstice Single Pot Still (finished in P.X. sherry casks). The distillery also produces Silks Irish Dry Gin, Copper Cloud Irish Dry Gin, and 1848 Brandy Apple. Specific ABVs vary by release; core expressions are generally bottled around 40-46% ABV in line with standard Irish whiskey practice.
