Church of Oak Distillery is an Irish whisky distillery located in Monasterevin, County Kildare, Ireland. It was founded in 2023 and is currently owned by private investors, reportedly including U2 frontman Bono. It is the first distillery to operate in Monasterevin in roughly a century, producing single malt, single pot still, and single grain spirit using triple-distilled pot still methods.
Church of Oak was established at Ballykelly Mills, a former grain mill complex in Monasterevin, County Kildare, marking the return of distilling to the town for the first time in around 100 years. The project began commissioning its stills and recruiting production staff, including a Head Distiller, from 2021 onward, and the distillery states it began distilling in early 2023. Reporting by the Irish Independent has linked U2 singer Bono to the site's investment, reported at around €50 million. Church of Oak describes itself as a multi-grain Irish whiskey producer, distilling single malt, single pot still, and single grain spirit at the same site, with plans for an on-site restaurant, bar, and visitor centre as part of the wider Ballykelly Mills redevelopment.
As a distillery that only began production in 2023, Church of Oak has not yet released a core range of aged whiskey, since Irish whiskey must mature in wood for a minimum of three years before it can legally carry the name. Early spirit is understood to be resting in cask at Ballykelly Mills, with single malt, single pot still, and single grain releases expected once maturation requirements have been met.
