Falkirk Distillery — Lowland Single Malt Whisky

Falkirk Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located on Grandsable Road on the outskirts of Falkirk, in the Lowland region of Scotland, roughly halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow. It was founded in 2020 and is a privately owned, family-run distillery led by co-founder Fiona Stewart. The site sits alongside the Antonine Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, giving the young distillery an unusually deep sense of place for its age.

History

Falkirk Distillery grew out of a long-held ambition to build a Lowland whisky distillery on home ground; its founders spent more than a decade planning the project before construction began. The team located an on-site artesian well to supply the distillery's process water and built the site from the ground up, including a handcrafted copper-topped stillhouse and a traditional dunnage bonded warehouse constructed by hand over roughly six months, with casks racked three high for even maturation. The distillery draws on its position next to the Antonine Wall and near Mumrills Roman Fort, framing its whisky-making as a continuation of a long local heritage of "place, people, family and the future." Production is built around a 4.5-tonne traditional copper mash tun, 34,000-litre fermenters and two copper pot stills, and the distillery opened its doors to visitors with guided tours of the stillhouse, warehouse and bottling hall soon after production began. Falkirk released its first single malt in limited batches and has since built out its own-label single malt and Kelpies-branded cask-strength expressions.

The distillery also bottles a cask-strength Kelpies range direct from single casks: the Kelpies Sherry Cask (61.9% ABV), with steeped fruit, treacle toffee and spice, and the Kelpies Bourbon Cask (62.1% ABV), showing candied peel, green apple and citrus. Bottles are offered in 20cl and 70cl formats, including gift sets, direct from the distillery.
