Grandtully Distillery was a Scotch whisky distillery that stood near the village of Grandtully in Highland Perthshire, Scotland. It was founded in 1825 and closed around 1910, after which its buildings were demolished. In its day it was known as one of the smallest licensed distilleries in Scotland, little bigger than the illicit stills that legal distilling was meant to replace.
Grandtully Distillery was established in 1825, in the years immediately following the Excise Act of 1823, which lowered licensing costs and duty rates enough to draw many small Highland farmers and illicit distillers into legal production. Early records credit Andrew Campbell & Co. with founding the operation on a very small scale, working with simple mash tuns and copper pot stills. Ownership passed through several hands before 1838, when cousins Donald and James Thomson took charge of the works. The Thomsons ran Grandtully as what was popularly known as the smallest legal distillery in Scotland, and its make was sold as "Old Grandtully Whisky" through the Perth grocery shop of their relative Alexander Thomson — a common arrangement of the period, in which licensed grocers acted as retailers and de facto brand agents for small country distilleries.
Grandtully Distillery closed around 1910 and its buildings were subsequently demolished, decades before the mid-20th-century wave of Scotch distillery closures. Little survives above ground today, and the site is recorded mainly as a minor historic-environment entry near Clochfoldich, on the A827 between Grandtully and Aberfeldy. Because production was always small-scale and ended well over a century ago, no verified original bottlings of Old Grandtully whisky are known to survive in the collector's market; any genuine example would be a significant historical rarity rather than a drinking whisky. No company today operates on the original site or holds rights to the historic Grandtully name.
