Levenbank Distillery — Lowland Single Malt Whisky

Levenbank Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Dumbarton, on the banks of the River Leven, in the Lowland region of Scotland. It was founded in 2025 and is currently owned by Euan and Fiona MacEachern, the husband-and-wife team behind the award-winning Loch Lomond Brewery. Levenbank draws directly on the couple's brewing expertise, adapting beer recipes and yeast strains into a flavour-forward style of single malt production rarely seen at a new-build Scotch distillery.

History

Levenbank Distillery grew out of Loch Lomond Brewery, the craft brewery Euan and Fiona MacEachern founded in Dumbarton in 2011. Building on more than a decade of brewing experience, the couple set up a whisky distilling operation on the same site before moving into a dedicated building at the Vale of Leven Industrial Estate in Dumbarton. The move restored whisky production to a town with a distilling heritage stretching back centuries, most notably the former Dumbarton grain distillery. Levenbank filled its first casks in 2024 and officially opened its own premises in 2025, with consultant distiller Jack Mayo and sales and development manager George Wotherspoon joining the MacEacherns to run the operation. The distillery offers members of the public the chance to buy individual casks, with warehousing and insurance included, and plans to release its first flagship single malt around 2030, followed by five- and ten-year-old expressions.

Core Range

As a newly founded distillery, Levenbank's stock is still maturing, so its current range centres on new-make spirit and cask offers built around three principal washes developed from Loch Lomond Brewery recipes: Laureate, made with pale ale malt and ale yeast for a fruit-forward character and matured in first-fill bourbon casks; Brewmaster, a blend of pale ale, crystal and brown malts giving coffee and chocolate notes, matured in Oloroso casks; and Peated, combining pale ale and peated malt for a smoky, toasted profile, matured in ex-bourbon casks. All spirit is bottled on-site non-chill-filtered with no added colouring. The distillery's first aged single malt releases are planned for the early 2030s as stock reaches maturity.
