Mossfield Distillery — Campbeltown Single Malt Whisky

Mossfield Distillery was a Scotch whisky distillery located on Longrow Street in Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland. It was founded in 1834 by the partnership of Harvey and Hunter and closed just three years later, in 1837. It was one of dozens of small, short-lived distilleries that sprang up in Campbeltown during the town's 19th-century whisky boom, most of which left little historical trace.

History

Mossfield Distillery was established in 1834 by Harvey and Hunter on Longrow Street, in the heart of Campbeltown's once-dense distilling quarter. Abundant local peat, a ready supply of barley, coastal access for shipping, and the town's thriving herring-curing trade fuelled a rapid proliferation of small distilleries in Campbeltown during the early-to-mid 19th century; at its peak the town hosted around 30 licensed distilleries. Mossfield was part of this wave, but like many of its contemporaries it proved commercially unviable and ceased production after only three years. No tasting notes, bottlings, or detailed production records for Mossfield are known to survive, and specifics such as its still configuration, output capacity, and the later fate of its buildings are not documented in available sources.
