Reivers Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located at Tweedbank, near Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, Lowland region, Scotland. It was founded in 2018 and is currently owned by Mossburn Distillers, a subsidiary of Marussia Beverages BV. It is only the second whisky distillery to open in the Scottish Borders in roughly 150 years, and unlike most Scotch distilleries it focuses on single grain whisky alongside experimental spirits such as rye and genever.
Reivers was developed by Mossburn Distillers, the company behind Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, as a second production site conceived as the experimental counterpart to Torabhaig's more traditional single malt operation. Early planning documents referred to the site under the working names "Jedhart Distillery" and "Mossburn Distillery" before it opened as Reivers, taking its name from the Border Reivers who once raided this stretch of the Anglo-Scottish frontier. The distillery was built on the banks of the Jed Water at Tweedbank Industrial Estate near Galashiels, a few miles from Jedburgh, with construction and commissioning underway from 2018. Reivers began distilling shortly after, with its first single grain Scotch whisky production reported for 2020, using a pot still and column still built by German fabricator Kothe. Alongside single grain whisky, Reivers has produced experimental spirits including rye and genever, with some rye stock reportedly intended for release once matured for seven or eight years. The site was designed to combine distilling, ageing and finishing warehouses, bottling lines and a laboratory, supporting ongoing spirit innovation. Reivers keeps an unusually low public profile for a modern Scotch distillery and does not offer public tours or visitor facilities.
Reivers has not established a widely retailed core range in the way a long-established malt distillery has. Production centres on single grain Scotch whisky, made alongside experimental rye spirit and genever, with much of the output being laid down to mature rather than sold young. Bottlings, including aged rye, are expected to emerge gradually as stock reaches maturity; specific product names and ABV details had not been widely published at the time of writing.
