Roe & Co Distillery — Dublin Single Malt Whisky

Roe & Co Distillery is an Irish whiskey distillery located on Thomas Street (with its visitor entrance at 92 James's Street), in the Liberties district of Dublin 8, Ireland. It was founded in 2019 and is currently owned by global drinks group Diageo. The distillery occupies the former Guinness power station directly across from St James's Gate, reviving a whiskey-making tradition on the same street where it began nearly two centuries earlier.

History

The Roe & Co name honours George Roe, whose original Thomas Street Distillery was, at its 19th-century peak, the largest in Britain and Ireland, producing up to two million gallons of whiskey a year. That distillery closed in 1926 during the broader collapse of the Irish whiskey industry, and today only two physical remnants survive on the site: the distillery's windmill tower and a pear tree that still flowers each year. Diageo, which also owns the neighbouring Guinness brewery, announced a €25 million investment in January 2017 to build a new distillery inside the brewery's disused power house on Thomas Street. Production of whiskey for blending began in June 2017, the Roe & Co blended Irish whiskey brand launched shortly after, and the rebuilt distillery and visitor experience formally opened to the public in 2019. It has since become one of Dublin's leading whiskey visitor attractions, winning both Ireland's Visitor Attraction of the Year and Brand Innovator of the Year at the Icons of Whisky Awards 2025.

Core Range

Roe & Co's core range centres on the Signature Blend (40% ABV), a non-chill filtered blend of malt and grain Irish whiskies matured in bourbon casks, offering an approachable entry point with notes of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon and stone fruit. The range has expanded to include permanent single-cask-style expressions distilled on site: the Single Grain "Flor" (46% ABV), inspired by the biological ageing of fortified Jerez wines and showing citrus, marzipan and apricot notes, and the Single Malt "Solera" (46% ABV), described by the distillery as its truest expression, made in Dublin 8 with muscovado, hazelnut and charred oak character.
