Scott's Irish Whiskey Distillery — County Fermanagh Single Malt Whisky

Scott's Irish Whiskey Distillery is an Irish whiskey distillery located in Garrison, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It was founded in 2019 and is currently active, producing single malt Irish whiskey in small, numbered batches. It holds the distinction of being Fermanagh's first whiskey distillery of the modern craft era, built on the banks of Lough Melvin.

History

Scott's Irish Whiskey traces its name and inspiration to Angus Scott, a local man said to have distilled illicitly around the waters of Lough Melvin in the 1780s before being caught by excise authorities and emigrating to America, where family lore holds he went on to build a fortune as a bourbon distiller. The modern company was incorporated in October 2019 with the aim of reviving that heritage, and construction of the distillery building in Garrison was completed in 2020, with production beginning the same year. The site sits near the western border with the Republic of Ireland and draws water from Lough Melvin and the Roogagh River.

The distillery's inaugural release, the First Batch Edition, attracted significant attention when a bottle sold for £11,000 at a charity auction held at the London Irish Centre — reported at the time as the highest price paid for a bottle of whisky in Europe. Subsequent releases have followed, including a Third Batch that won a Silver Medal at the 2025 International Wines & Spirits Competition (IWSC), and a Saint Brigid's Signature Batch that won IWSC Gold in the same year. The brand has since expanded distribution into markets including Germany and India, and has been featured at Belfast City Airport's Aspire Lounge.

Notably, the distillery brands its product "Whisky" rather than the conventional Irish spelling "Whiskey," a deliberate branding choice tied to the Scott family story.
