Slane Distillery is an Irish whiskey distillery located in the village of Slane, County Meath, Ireland. It was founded in 2018 and is currently owned by Brown-Forman Corporation, produced on the historic grounds of Slane Castle. Slane is notable for uniting two long-established whiskey families — the Conynghams, owners of Slane Castle since the 18th century, and Kentucky's Brown family, whose distilling heritage dates back to 1870.
The origins of Slane Distillery trace back to 2008, when Alex Conyngham, son of Lord Henry Conyngham and heir to the Slane Castle estate, returned to his home village with a vision of reviving whiskey-making on the family's land in the Boyne Valley. Conyngham became a founding member of the Irish Whiskey Association and went on to broker a partnership between the Conyngham family and Brown-Forman Corporation, the Louisville, Kentucky-based spirits company behind Jack Daniel's, whose own Brown family has been distilling since 1870.
Construction of the distillery on the Slane Castle estate was overseen by Alan, a native of Slane village, and the facility opened in 2018, producing Irish whiskey using traditional pot-still methods alongside modern distilling technology. The site sits on land steeped in Irish history, close to the ancient passage tombs of Brú na Bóinne and the Hill of Slane. Since opening, Slane has grown into a visitor destination on the wider Slane Castle estate, which also hosts distillery tours, tastings, and the long-running Slane Festival concerts.
Slane's flagship expression is the Slane Irish Whiskey Triple Casked Blend (40% ABV), matured and blended across three cask types — virgin American oak, seasoned whiskey casks, and Oloroso sherry casks. The core range also includes limited and specialty releases such as Slane Special Edition, Slane Batch Strength, and Slane Extra Sherry Wood.
