Strathclyde Distillery is a Scotch grain whisky distillery located in the Gorbals district of Glasgow, Lowland Scotland. It was founded in 1927 and is currently owned by Pernod Ricard. Unlike malt distilleries, Strathclyde produces grain spirit almost exclusively for blending, with no official single grain bottling of its own.
Strathclyde Distillery was founded in 1927 by Seager Evans & Co., with production of grain spirit beginning in 1928. In 1956 the site was acquired by the American company Schenley Industries, which invested heavily in the operation and, in 1958, added a small malt whisky still-house on the same site under the name Kinclaith. The Kinclaith malt operation ran until 1975, when it was dismantled after the site passed to Whitbread. Ownership later transferred through Allied Domecq before the site came under Pernod Ricard, its current owner, following Pernod Ricard's 2005 acquisition of Allied Domecq's spirits interests. Today Strathclyde remains a major working grain distillery supplying Pernod Ricard's Scotch blends, including Chivas Regal and Ballantine's. Water for production is drawn from Loch Katrine.
Strathclyde produces grain spirit almost entirely for use in blended Scotch whisky, and the distillery does not release an official core range of its own single grain whisky. Aged casks have occasionally been released as Single Cask Single Grain whisky by independent bottlers, including the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, but these are one-off, non-standard bottlings rather than a permanent range.
