Tiree Distillery — Islands Single Malt Whisky

Tiree Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located at Hynish, on the Isle of Tiree, Scotland. It was founded in 2019 and is currently owned by Tiree Whisky Company Ltd. It holds the distinction of being the island's first legal distillery in over 200 years, reviving a distilling heritage that had been dormant since a ban in 1802.

History

Tiree, in the Inner Hebrides off Scotland's west coast, has a long documented history of distilling — the island is said to have once been home to as many as fifty small-scale distillers — but licensed production ceased after a distilling ban was imposed in 1802, leaving the island without a legal distillery for more than two centuries. Tiree Whisky Company Ltd was established in 2019 to revive that heritage, opening its distillery and visitor centre at Hynish on the island's south coast. While its whisky matured in cask, the company built its early reputation on Tyree Gin and Hebridean Pink Gin, both distilled on-site. Whisky production began in earnest in 2023, and the distillery's first single malt was released for sale in January 2025, marking the return of legal whisky-making to Tiree after more than 220 years. The site continues to operate as one of Scotland's smallest and most traditional distilling operations, offering tours, tastings, and gin-making experiences to visitors.

Core Range

Tiree Distillery's whisky range centres on its Isle of Tiree Single Malt Scotch Whisky and Isle of Tiree Single Grain Scotch Whisky (Rye), alongside a limited "First Release" bottling that marked the distillery's debut whisky. The same site also produces the distillery's longer-established spirits, Tyree Gin and Hebridean Pink Gin, made while the whisky stocks matured. Specific ABV and cask details for individual releases are published on a rolling basis as small-batch bottlings are released.
