Titanic Distillery — Belfast Single Malt Whisky

Titanic Distillers is an Irish whiskey distillery located at Thompson Dock in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was founded in 2023 and is currently owned and operated by Titanic Distillers Ltd. It holds the distinction of being Belfast's first working whiskey distillery in almost 90 years, built inside the very pumphouse that once helped launch RMS Titanic and her sister ships.

History

Titanic Distillers was established by Belfast businessmen Peter Lavery, Richard Irwin and Stephen Symington, who converted the historic 1911 Thompson Dock pumphouse — the building that pumped water in and out of the dry dock where Titanic was fitted out — into a working distillery and visitor attraction. The project represented an investment of roughly £8 million, later supplemented by a further £5 million equity investment from Whiterock to fund expansion, and received Selective Financial Assistance from Invest NI under the EU's Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme. The distillery opened to the public on 28 April 2023 and began distilling in August 2023 under head distiller Damien Rafferty, ending an almost 90-year gap since whiskey was last legally distilled in the city. Because the site's own spirit is still young, the early core range has combined new-make and short-matured distillate from Thompson Dock with sourced and finished Irish whiskey, a common approach for newly opened distilleries building up aged stock. Alongside production, Titanic Distillers operates as a major Titanic Quarter tourism venue, with guided tours of the pumphouse and dock, a bar and coffee shop, a retail shop, and a cask-ownership scheme known as the 401 Club.
