Torabhaig Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located near Teangue, on the Sleat peninsula of the Isle of Skye, in the Islands region of Scotland. It was founded in 2017 and is currently owned by Mossburn Distillers. It is only the second licensed distillery ever built on Skye, and the first since Talisker was established in 1830.
The site at Torabhaig was first identified for distilling by local landowner Sir Iain Noble, who secured planning permission for a distillery on a former farm steading in 2002. After his death, the project was taken forward by Mossburn Distillers (part of Marussia Beverages), with construction of the distillery beginning in 2014. Designed by architects Simpson and Brown, the build converted historic steading buildings on the site and cost in excess of £5 million. Torabhaig was commissioned and began production in January 2017, drawing process water from the Allt Gleann Thorabhaig and the Allt Breacach. Its first official whisky, the Legacy Series Ch.1: 2017, was released in February 2021, followed by further limited-edition Legacy Series chapters, including Allt Gleann, which was selected by National Museums Scotland for preservation in its national collection in 2022.
Torabhaig produces peated single malt whisky under its house style, described by the distillery as "smoke with taste." Its releases are issued as numbered chapters of the Legacy Series, typically bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, including Legacy Series Ch.1: 2017, Ch.2: Allt Gleann, Ch.3: Cnoc Na Mòine, and Ch.4: Sound of Sleat, alongside the entry-level Torabhaig Taigh. Higher-strength "Batch Strength" variants of several releases are also available.
