About this whisky
- Region:
From the remote northeast coast of Islay, Bunnahabhain’s Culag emerges as a testament to Victorian distillery ambition, built in 1881 with a vision for island spirit production. This expression draws its character from a unique finish in Cognac casks, layered upon Bunnahabhain’s traditionally light and sweet spirit, matured primarily in ex-Sherry oak. The result is a rich and complex whisky, hinting at a subtle smokiness from the distillery’s heritage while delivering notes of fruit and spice. Named ‘Culag’ – Gaelic for ‘something at the back’ – this bottling represents a rare discovery from the depths of the Bunnahabhain warehouse, bottled at 46.1% ABV.
