About this whisky
- Region:
Distilled in 1972 at the now-silent Karuizawa Distillery, nestled at the foot of Japan’s Mount Asama, this whisky embodies a unique terroir. Originally crafted as a single malt for blending, Karuizawa embraced Golden Promise barley and matured its spirit primarily in sherry casks, resulting in a remarkably robust and characterful profile. Bottled in 2011, this expression – from cask #7038 – offers a complex and intensely flavoured experience, reflective of a distillery that, despite its small size, produced a whisky of exceptional quality. At 63.3% ABV, it’s a powerful and rare taste of a bygone era of Japanese distilling.
