Distilled in 1982 at the now-demolished Karuizawa Distillery, nestled at the base of Mount Asama in Japan, this single cask whisky represents a rare glimpse into a unique spirit. Originally established to create malt for blends, Karuizawa distinguished itself with a robust character, utilizing Golden Promise barley and, in this instance, a first-fill bourbon cask for maturation. Unlike the distillery’s more common sherry cask expressions, this bottling offers a different facet of Karuizawa’s profile – expect a vibrant and nuanced flavour experience. Bottled in 2012 at 46% ABV, this whisky delivers a taste of a bygone era from a distillery that sadly ceased production in 2000.
