Distilled in 1999 at the now-silent Karuizawa Distillery, nestled at the base of Mount Asama in Japan, this whisky embodies a unique heritage. Originally built to produce malt for blends, Karuizawa distinguished itself using Golden Promise barley and maturation in sherry casks, creating a spirit of remarkable character. This bottling, #2332 from a single sherry cask, offers a robust and complex flavour profile reflective of the distillery’s distinctive style – a style sadly lost with its closure in 2000. Bottled in 2015 as part of the Geisha series, this rare expression represents one of only 312 bottles released, capturing a moment in Japanese whisky history.
