Historical Context
Glenlivet launched the Master Distiller’s Reserve for travel retail in 2011 as a premium NAS alternative. In 2015 the range was broadened with Solera Vatted and Small Batch versions to showcase cask selection. Batch 9378/010 is one of these later, more selective bottlings, built from a mix of first fill sherry casks, first fill American oak and standard seasoned oak, all chosen by the distillery team to give more weight than the base Master Distiller’s Reserve. Being a travel exclusive, it was widely distributed but bought mostly by travellers, which is why stock now appears in specialist shops and auctions rather than supermarkets.

-
Front label must say Master Distiller’s Reserve Small Batch and show the batch number.
-
Carton should be present and free from heavy scuffing; 40% travel bottles often travel hard.
-
Check duty free/airport stickers; leave them on if neat, as they confirm travel origin.
2.3 Regulatory/terminology notes
-
NAS single malt, bottled at 40%.
-
Triple maturation is a production claim, not a legal category.
-
Colouring and chill filtration are standard and should be assumed.
Liquid Profile
Nose: Raisins, autumn fruit, Seville-orange citrus, polished oak, baking spice.
Palate: Medium-weight Glenlivet fruitiness layered with sherry sweetness, vanilla from the American oak and a little dry oak from the traditional casks.
Finish: Long for 40%, with citrus, gentle chilli warmth and toffee.
With water: Not required at 40%.

The Glenlivet is one of the core Speyside distilleries, with high capacity and a long-established fruity, estery style. The small batch travel outturns are a way for the distillery to show cask selection without committing to a permanent aged SKU.
