About this whisky
- Malt type: Blended
- Region: Scotland
Rutherford & Company, with its origins tracing back to the 18th century, began its journey as a tavern owned by 'Kindly Mrs. Rutherford' in Edinburgh, a favorite spot of Rabbie Burns and with ties to the ancestors of Sir Walter Scott. The establishment's expansion into several more pubs led to the foundation of its independent bottling business in 1834, initially focusing on fine wines and cognac. By the 1860s, Rutherford's ventured into creating their own blended whiskies. Despite opting to cater primarily to the Scottish market, leading to limited success in local wholesale, the company has been widely recognized for its distinctive ceramic jugs and decanters, adorned with various illustrations. The blend, bottled by Rutherford & Co. (Whisky Merchants) Ltd. under the Ceramic Jug series, boasts a stated age of 12 years, and a strength of 70* proof. Please note the cork stopper has crumbled away slightly.
