Born amidst the volcanic landscape of Karuizawa, Japan, this 1999 single malt embodies the spirit of a distillery steeped in history. Originally established to create blending whisky, Karuizawa instead crafted a uniquely robust and characterful spirit, matured exclusively in sherry casks using Golden Promise barley – a variety also favoured by Macallan. Bottled in 2018 as part of La Maison Du Whisky’s Artist Series, this expression delivers a rich and complex flavour profile reflective of its rare heritage. With only 313 bottles released, it represents a poignant taste of a distillery silenced in 2000, and sadly demolished in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional whisky.
