Bruichladdich, founded in 1881 on Islay's western coast, is a distillery known for its innovative approach to whisky-making within a traditional framework. After closing in 1994, it was revived in 2001 and has since gained renown for its emphasis on terroir, using Islay-grown barley and highlighting the island's unique environmental influences. The distillery produces three distinct styles: unpeated Bruichladdich, heavily peated Port Charlotte (which includes PC8), and ultra-heavily peated Octomore. Despite its acquisition by Rémy Cointreau in 2012, Bruichladdich maintains its commitment to artisanal production methods, transparency, and local employment, making it a significant player in both Islay's economy and the wider Scotch whisky industry. Port Charlotte PC10 is a robustly peated single malt Scotch whisky from Islay's Bruichladdich distillery. Aged for 10 years, it offers a complex balance of intense smoke and maritime character. The nose features bold peat, sea salt, and hints of citrus. On the palate, expect layers of smoky bacon, iodine, and dark fruit, underscored by vanilla and oak. The finish is long and warming, with lingering peat smoke and a subtle sweetness. Bottled at 50% ABV, PC10 delivers a full-bodied experience that showcases the distillery's mastery of heavily peated malts.
