Ardbeg – 21 Year Old 2016 Committee Release is a whisky from Ardbeg (Islay). Aged 21 years, bottled at 46% ABV, 70cl. Since its establishment in 1815, The Ardbeg distillery has been on a tumultuous rollercoaster ride of ownership changes, closures, and reopening. Stability was only achieved relatively recently, when the ailing distillery was purchased in 1997 by industry giants, Glenmorangie. The subsequent years have seen the distillery’s popularity swell, with fans enticed by the signature style of tarry, sooty smoke, balanced against citric sweetness and an oily mouthfeel. While Ardbeg still retains its distinctive personality, it has definitely been influenced by Glenmorangie’s propensity for experimenting with cask finishing, and (dare we say it) NAS expressions. 21 Year Old 2016 Committee Release: Distilled during some of the most turbulent times that the Ardbeg distillery has gone through, this whisky was released exclusively to the Ardbeg Committee in recognition of their vital role in safeguarding the distillery’s future. Aged in 200 litre casks and set aside by a young Mickey Heads, this whisky is testament to the distillery’s unwavering commitment to quality even in its darkest hours. Exclusively available to members of The Ardbeg Committee, this rare expression has been created using just 12 hand selected casks. Please note Springbank labels are extremely prone to scuffing.
