Balblair’s 1999 vintage third release. This Highland Scotch whisky was aged in a unique and interesting combination of American oak, ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish oak ex-sherry butts. Balblair is owned by the InverHouse distillers, which was bought by Robert ‘Bertie’ Cumming in 1948 after years of staying under the radar. Bertie expanded and modernised the distillery with a contemporary visitor centre that offers an excellent tour which highlights the distillery's role in Ken Loach’s 2012 movie ‘The Angels’ Share’. Balblair is also committed to reducing its ecological footprint and has changed from oil to gas, perhaps marking a new era for distilleries around the world, now who wouldn’t want to take part in this historic and remarkable change?
Tasting Notes
Soaked raisins, Christmas cake, vanilla, orange peel, caramel and cinnamon spice
Autumnal fruits, ground winter spices with toffee apples, honey and a citrus bite
Smooth and lengthy, with gingerbread spice and a hint of leather
