Bowmore – 1964 Bourbon Cask 38 Year Old (Bottle 007 of 018 in 75cl glass) is a single malt whisky from Bowmore (Islay). Aged 38 years, bottled at 43.20% ABV, 70cl. Matured in bourbon cask. The unique microclimate of the No.1 Vaults warehouse at Bowmore distillery means casks share very little with the angels, and has allowed the distillery to bottle some spectacular age statements over the years. These early Morrison Bowmore-era vintages are considered classics. Distilled in November 1964, this was matured in bourbon casks for 38 years. The bottle was originally displayed in an individual oak presentation case, hand crafted by the Master Cabinet Makers of Charles Kirkby & Sons of Sheffield, England. Each case has an individually numbered brass plaque which corresponds with the bottle number on the back label. An extra rarity, this bottle is one of just eighteen 75cl size bottles that were erroneously labelled as 70cl. An official letter was issued to the original purchaser of the bottle by Morrison Bowmore Distillers to explain the mistake. A redacted copy of this is included in the batch (the original features the buyers name and has been omitted). The oldest operational distillery on the isle of Islay, built in 1779. Today it is part of the Suntory Group, having been acquired by the Japanese company in 1994. Under their ownership is has been nurtured into one of the most collectable names in Scotch whisky.
