Kilchoman – Am Bùrach 2020 Edition (70cl, 46%)

Kilchoman – Am Bùrach 2020 Edition is a single malt whisky from Kilchoman (Islay). Aged 9 years, bottled at 46% ABV, 70cl. Matured in ruby port cask finish. Am Bùrach is Gaelic for "the mess," and were the words spoken KIlchoman distillery manager Islay Heads in the wake of an accident in 2014 when two different batches Kilchoman were mistakenly vatted by an unnamed stillman. As it transpired, their blushes were saved as the blend of Machir Bay and some Port Cask Matured whisky showed promise. It was laid back down to further mature for six years in bourbon wood before being finished in port casks for 6 months. An Islay malt distillery that was the first new distillery on the island for 124 years when it opened in 2005. Founded by the Wills family, the distillery saw a return of the practice of “farm distilling” to Islay as it used its own barely fields, malt floors and kilns.
