Port Ellen – 1979 9 Rogue Casks 40 Year Old is a single malt whisky from Port Ellen (Islay). Aged 40 years, bottled at 50.9% ABV, 70cl. Matured in american oak hogsheads & European oak butts. The second release from a series of bottles from the legendary Islay distillery, titled Untold Stories. This whisky was distilled in 1979 and has been aged for 40 years. It is made up of four American oak hogsheads and five European oak butts that have been bottled at cask strength. Originally the plan was to debut this release at Fèis Ìle. Sadly, like most public events in 2020, Fèis Ìle was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This meant that 9 Rogue Casks premiered via a virtual online whisky tasting led by future Port Ellen master distiller Georgie Crawford. An Islay distillery that developed a cult status following its closure by Distillery Company in 1983. Originally only providing fillings for blends, its single had become hugely sought-after by the turn of the 21st century, so much so in fact that it was re-opened again by Diageo in 2024.
