Tamdhu – 12 Year Old - Sherry Oak is a single malt whisky from Tamdhu (Speyside). Aged 12 years, bottled at 43% ABV, 70cl. Finished in sherry Oak Cask.
Founded by a group of blenders led by William Grant in 1897, Tamdhu Distillery has been providing whisky for blends ever since it was built. Highland Distillers (now Edrington) purchased the distillery in 1899, however, Tamdhu has had a time of it. The distillery first closed in 1911 for two years and then fell silent again in 1927 for two decades. Shortly after reopening, the maltings were replaced with ten Saladin boxes, which were each capable of holding up to 22 tons of malt. Tamdhu became one of the last sites in Scotland to be using this method of malting. Sadly, the distillery was mothballed yet again by Edrington for another two years before Ian Macleod Distillers stepped in and reopened the distillery. The new owners brought many good things for the distillery, including new washbacks, warehouses, a visitors' centre and Tamdhu's first official release.
This 12 year old bottling of Tamdhu was exclusively matured in sherry oak casks.
