Arran The Illicit Stills Smugglers' Series - Volume One is a single malt whisky from Lochranza (Island). Bottled at 56.40% ABV, 70cl. Matured in port pipes & sherry hogsheads. This is the 2015 and first release in the highly acclaimed Arran Smugglers' Series. The collection was a nod to the shady history of Arran's illicit distilling back during the 18th and 19th centuries when the island was a producer of black market whisky. The whisky itself represents the type of dram the illicit producers would create. It is a mixture of port pipes and sherry hogsheads containing non-peated spirit and oak barrels containing peated spirit. One of two malt whisky distilleries owned by Isle of Arran Distillers, Lochranza was the first to be opened in 1995. The distillery's flagship single malt brand is the Arran label and although it now only distils a non-peated whisky, it has historically produced peated single malt as well.
