Highland Park – 15 Year Old - Viking Heart is a single malt whisky from Highland Park (Islands). Aged 15 years, bottled at 44% ABV, 70cl. Highland Park is known for being the most Northern Scotch Whisky Distillery in the world. It is situated on the outskirts of the biggest town in Orkney 58.9847°N. It is so far North it is almost in the Arctic circle. To give you an idea, it is on the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska. The distillery has been distilling in the same site since 1798 where the founder, Magnus Eunson's, original illicit still was at High Park. They smoke their own barley from over 4,000 year old peat which has been cut from the Hobbister Moor only seven miles from the distillery. This is a very rich and complex single malt from the Orcadians. This 15 year old was made by Gordon Motion, their Master Whisky Maker. He selected predominantly sherry-seasoned European oak casks which help to deliver a warm textured feel. He then added a few refill casks to soften and smooth the flavours.
