Laphroaig – Brodir - Port Wood Finish - Batch 2 is a single malt whisky from Laphroaig (Islay). Bottled at 48% ABV, 70cl. Finished in port Wood.
Laphroaig is a substantial distillery with 7 stills and a capacity of over 3 million litres per year! The distillery was built in 1815 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston, the distillery remained under D. Johnston & Co until the 1960s. In the 20th century, the distillery saw a rise to fame when Donald's great-grandson Ian Hunter took over. When Ian died, he left the distillery to his secretary, Bessie Williamson who had been the acting manager during Ian's extensive international sales trips. Bessie retired in 1972 and the distillery was granted a Royal Warrant in 1994 from HRH The Prince of Wales at the time. This was also the year that Friends of Laphroaig was founded, which to this day has around 640,000 members.
Initially launched as a European travel exclusive, Brodir is aged initially in ex-bourbon barrels, before being finished in European oak ex-ruby port casks.
This bottling is from batch 2.
