Old Pulteney – 17 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

Old Pulteney – 17 Year Old is a whisky from Old Pulteney (Highland). Aged 17 years, bottled at 46% ABV, 70cl. The Pulteney distillery was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in the historic Caithness fishing port of Wick and has changed hands many times over the years. It is currently the second best vendor in the Inver House stable. In 1930 production ceased at Pulteney, due to the introduction of prohibition in Wick in an attempt to curb drunkenness. The town remained ‘dry’ until 1947, and four years later Pulteney distillery re-opened. The distillery has won many accolades over the years. Pulteney distillery is equipped with a single pair of very individual stills, with condensing taking place in a pair of stainless steel worm tubs. Both stills boast large boil balls, and the wash still has a unique, truncated, flat-topped appearance. A delicious dram from Old Pulteney, this is comprised of 90% refill Bourbon casks with the remainder being from Oloroso casks. World Whiskies Awards 2012 Winner - Best Highland 13 to 20 years.
