Tomatin – 12 Year Old - Sherry Cask is a single malt whisky from Tomatin (Highland). Aged 12 years, bottled at 40% ABV, 70cl. Finished in spanish Sherry.
Tomatin Distillery was founded in 1897 by the Tomatin Spey Distillery Company, located in the Highlands between Aviemore and Inverness. Going through various fluctuations in production whilst growing from 2 stills to 23 stills throughout the 60s and 70s before going into liquidation. In 1985 the Distillery was purchased by long-term Japanese customers, Takara Shuzo Co. and Okara & Co. thus becoming the first Scottish distillery to be under Japanese management. Later the prestigious Antiquary blender J&W Hardie was added to the portfolio, and Marubeni bought the distillery. In more recent years production has been downsized to utilise just 10 stills and the decision was made to focus on the single malt range, such as the 'Cu Bocan' expression released in 2013.
An addition to its core range in 2024, Tomatin's 12-year-old Sherry Cask builds upon the classic 12-year-old but is instead fully matured in sherry casks for 12 years. The bottle design boasts plenty of scarlet and gold to pay homage to the flavours imparted by the sherry wood during the cask maturation process.
