A 19 year old Islay single malt from Ardbeg, in a 70cl bottle. This is Batch 4 of Traigh Bhan, matured in a balance of American oak and Oloroso sherry casks.
The nose opens with sweet wood smoke and tart creme fraiche, then savoury fennel, celeriac and roasted tea leaves, with charcoal, burnt toast, saddle soap and leather. The palate is intensely salty, moving to medicinal tones, smoked pineapple, salted peanut brittle, lime, aniseed, fudge, birch tar and peat smoke. The finish is long, sharp and savoury, with lingering smoke.
