Ardbeg Ardcore is a cask strength Islay single malt bottled at 50.1% ABV as a Committee release for Ardbeg Day. It is a one-off bottling, and the first Ardbeg made with roasted black malt, which brings charcoal, sweet smoke, aniseed and dark chocolate.
Its theme draws on the brand's punk past and the 1970s nickname of Port Ellen as 'Punk Ellen'.
The nose is spicy and savoury, with burnt toast, chicory, coffee grounds, herbal notes, bonfire smoke and molasses. The palate is fiery, with cocoa, dark chocolate, peanut brittle, smoked lime, soot and aniseed. The finish is sweeter and long, with treacle toffee, soot and smoke.
