Ardcore was the Ardbeg Day release for 2022, an Islay single malt made with roasted black malt, barley kilned at very high temperatures. Black malt is familiar from brewing, but Ardbeg had not used it before.
It is bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered and at natural colour, in a 700ml bottle.
The nose is spicy and savoury, with burnt toast, charcoal, coffee grounds and bonfire smoke. The palate is fiery and full, with cocoa, dark chocolate, peanut brittle toffee and smoked lime, and the finish turns sweeter, with treacle toffee and soot.
