Ardbeg Spectacular is an Islay single malt released for the Feis Ile Festival, the annual celebration of Islay whisky. It is a limited edition.
It was matured in port wine casks, a first for the Ardbeg distillery, alongside ex-bourbon barrels. The combination sets peaty intensity against a sweeter side.
The nose is smoked berries, treacle toffee and warming wood spice. On the palate come charcoal smoke, ripe dark fruits and a syrupy sweetness. The finish is long, with candied nuts and a maritime saltiness.
