Ardnahoe – Càraid Ìleach No. 2 PX Quarter Cask (70cl, 50%)

Càraid Ìleach No. 2 is the PX edition in a pair of Islay releases from Ardnahoe. This limited single malt matured entirely in Pedro Ximénez sherry quarter casks, rather than only finishing in them. Each holds 50 litres, so the whisky has more contact with the wood relative to its volume. It is bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle, with natural colour and no chill-filtration. The nose brings raspberries, stewed plums and candied orange alongside maritime peat smoke. On the palate come sultanas, ripe figs and cinnamon, with the sweetness of PX sherry. The finish is long and warming, with a fine note of smoke.
