The Balvenie 12 Year Old DoubleWood is a Speyside single malt from the Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown. Launched in 1993, it is matured in two stages: at least 12 years in refill American oak ex-bourbon casks, then a final nine months in first-fill European oak Oloroso sherry butts. It is married in oak tuns for three to four months before bottling.
On the nose, honey and vanilla mingle with Oloroso sherry, sultanas and a soft nuttiness. The palate is mellow and rich, with nutty sweetness, cinnamon and a hint of dried apricot. The finish is long, warming and slightly drying, with sweetness remaining.
