Bowmore 18 Year Old is a single malt from Islay's oldest licensed distillery, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is matured in a combination of American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak Oloroso sherry casks, including some with Pedro Ximénez influence, and rests in the No. 1 Vaults, the only maturation warehouse in Scotland below sea level.
The colour is mellow mahogany. The nose combines caramel, toffee and ripe nectarines with delicate peat smoke. The palate brings dark chocolate, honeycomb, oranges, roasted coffee and macadamia nuts, with a gentle, maritime smoke. The finish is long and warming, with Seville marmalade, floral blossoms and a touch of sea salt.
