Black Art Edition 8.1 is an unpeated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, the eighth in the Black Art series and the fourth created by head distiller Adam Hannett. It was distilled in 1994 and matured for 26 years on Islay in casks whose identities are kept secret, then bottled in 2020 at 45.1% ABV (90.2 proof) in a 75cl bottle. It is non-chill filtered and has no added colour. Only 12,000 bottles were released, each in a matte black bottle and tube. The nose opens with lime zest and fresh orange, then caramel, dried apricot, pipe tobacco, maple syrup and toasted hazelnut, with rose and wild thyme in time. The palate is soft and honeyed, with walnut, coconut, vanilla and millionaire's shortbread. The finish is gentle and sweet, with sultana, lemon drizzle cake and milk chocolate.
